Do you want a career in automotive industry? Look no further other than Despark Auto Academy. This is a place that can turn your passion in cars and engine into a full time career. Located at Bandar Baru Klang, this institute is run by entrepreneur Alex Pung. At the age of just 34, he is already a managing director of DAA.

The mission of this institute is to create a new class of auto professional that is capable to handle the current automotive technology. In my opinion, I think this is good as there are too many old fashion workshop out there with short of skilled mechanics and service technicians. From what I see, many workshop are still using old apprentice system that is no longer suitable for the market. And this is why the academy comes in to supply skillfull automotive service technicians who can deal with today’s cars.

The academic syllabus covers both hands-on practical and theory which 70% of the courses will go to practical. If I am 10 years younger, I will go for this career line due to my high passion in cars and engine.

DAA has secured few big player in automotive industry such as Corida and Bosch. A study grant worth RM 600,000 is provided by Corida to the first 200 students. Not only that, Corida also supplied the institute with auto and training equipment. Being the first institute in Malaysia that provides automotive skills, it is the only training center that has collaboration ties with Bosch in training.

Alex has invested in 3 sports cars which are Subaru, Nissan Fairlady and Mazda Rx8 so that his students got the chance to handle high performance cars.

At the moment of writing this post, there are already 700 students enrolled in the academy with 70 students from the first batch have graduated. The courses offer are Malaysian Skills Certificate systems (three levels) and City & Guilds certificate, diploma and advanced diploma in vehicle maintenance and repair.

• Certificate - anyone above 16 in age can apply.
• Diploma - a pass in English and Mathematics in SPM
• Advanced Diploma - a pass in English, Mathematics plus Physics.
